"JOURNEY OF THE DULLEST LAD TO THE TALKING ENCYCLOPEDIA"
A personality that passed through endless trials and
tribulations, hurdles and hardships, paved his way towards carving a castle for
himself. His chapter of life started
from his birth in a middle class family with five siblings. Being a mischievous boy, he did not achieve
much during primary and higher primary education.
His father’s retirement from the Railway service made
him return to his native state of Karnataka.
His timely hard work got him through the tenth standard with the least
percentage. This was the first shock
given by him to the people.
One of his classmates was an expert in Yogasanas who
boosted his confidence to perform them. Meanwhile when a Karate master opened a
school, he joined the classes. He ameliorated
his defensive skills. During this period, he added another feather learning
Kalari, i.e., Indian Kung fu, from a Keralite Master.
At this juncture, his zeal to study sprouted and to
overcome his Achilles heel, he approached a man who was good at English
phonetics. He agreed but on one
condition, that is, he would teach him English phonetics if agrees to play the
Mandolin for his orchestra.
This undesired opportunity made him welcome to the
world of western music. After a couple
of months, he realized that he ought to study the theory and practice of the
guitar. During his stay in Andhra
Pradesh, his sworn or blood brother had influenced and introduced him to the
singing skills.
He became a cynosure of the people around him. But his
fate had planned something for him. Suddenly
his father was severely ill, and was confined to bed. Thus he was unable to continue his
studies. After a gap, the enthusiasm to
study made him join English Typing and Shorthand classes. After the completion of these courses, he
resumed his PUC by choosing Arts’ stream.
Pre-University education heightened his academic skills and he obtained
the sixth rank.
His fate favoured him when his friends supported financially
and they forced him to join the Karnataka University in Dharwar, pursuing the
degree of Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. His optional subjects were Urdu and Persian.
Being a time-conscious person, he attended French and
Russian Evening classes. Unfortunately,
he had to drop Russian. During his five-year
stay at Dharwar, he learnt the Sitar also from a Maestro Ustad Bale Khan.
He graduated with flying colours—again the sixth
rank. His post-graduation was done in
Linguistics. He proved his mettle in the
post-graduation by acquiring the second rank.
With all these laurels, one of his distant relatives had offered him a
chance to work in Dubai but luck did not favour
Being the eldest son, he had to look after his single
mother and five siblings. He shouldered
this responsibility. He was at the
crossroads—in the state of a dilemma. At
last, he determined to do simple stints like teaching English, French, guitar
and Karate. One fine day, he accompanied
his friend who was running a school in Hassan
His stayed in Hassan district for twenty-six years
provided him with a wide range of knowledge and experience in the skills and
arts he had learnt. He was very much
interested in music and to ameliorate his music skills, he thought of obtaining
guidelines of Maestro Ilayaraja who sent him to his own tutor of Western music,
Master Joseph who was in Bangalore as the Band Master.
Under the instructions of Master Joseph, he studied
the theory of Western Music for three years.
After the completion of this training, he studied German and French
through British Institute, Bombay.
He tried his hand in the art of translation too. He has many books to his credit. He has compiled books on English Riddles, English
grammar, French Made Easy, German Made Easy, English Collocations Made Easy and
Guitar Learning Made Easy in three grades.
Beginning from Holenarsipur (Hassan), after his
marriage, he continued his career at Islamia Arabic College called
Mansoora.
I feel I have never seen a person like him who hailed
from Telugu Medium and became a master in English. From the dullest lad, he proved himself to be
a scholar. He knows nine languages:
Urdu, Hindi, Persian, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, English, French and German. In his leisure, he writes in Urdu, Kannada
and English.
written by others.Owning these multi-talents he is popularly known as TALKING ENCYCLOPEDIA.
I would also like to say that not every person is born brilliant, its all about the struggle to succeed as we clearly understand with this life story of Mr. Ghouse.
He is my ideal, Teacher, Guide, Philosopher and
nevertheless….MY BELOVED DAD.
I conclude that all heroes are not on the Silver Screen
but a few real heroes are off the screen also, like Mr.Ghouse.
